Whether you’re a bass player, a writer, a photographer, or any other type of artist, chances are you’ve probably had writer’s block at some point in your creative career. Ideas seem unoriginal and you’ve been staring at a blank document for what seems like hours… nothing seems to flow!

When you feel like it’s time to take a break and step away from the bass, here are five podcasts that will inspire you to continue to create amazing work.

1. Groove – The No Treble Podcast

Marketing guru and music journalist Mitch Joel is on an epic journey to build the world’s largest oral history of the electric bass guitar. With guests ranging from the legendary Victor Wooten to Youtube sensation Zander Zon, you’ll hear about the successes, failures, and everything in between that made these bassists who they are today. Each podcast is roughly 30-60 minutes in length. Catch a new episode of Groove every first Thursday of the month.

2. The Scott’s Bass Lessons Podcast

If you’ve ever googled “online bass lessons,” then you’re probably familiar with Scott’s Bass Lessons. Scott Devine has a vast array of resources in just about every type of format you can imagine, and he’s no stranger to podcasts. With this podcast, Scott has had conversations with Juan Alderete, Michael Manring, and many more. Scott’s episodes range between 20-90 minutes in length, so strap in and enjoy!

3. The Bass Nerds

Jody Miller and Marc Najjar take you deep into the bass side of the music industry, interviewing luthiers, company founders, and magazine editors. If you’re a fan of Sire Basses, you’ll want to check out their interview with founder Kyle Kim!

4. The Bassist Podcast

Norm Stockton. Damian Erskine. Divinity Roxx. These are just a few names bassist Jayme Lewis has had conversations with about music, lessons learned, and the life of a working musician. There are almost a hundred episodes, so this one may be for you if you’re looking for a podcast binge.

5. Dunlop Presents Bass Freq’s

Bassist Josh Paul (Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, Daughtry) takes a deep dive with today’s top bassists to discuss their background, experiences, gear, and approach. Guests include Marcus Miller, Gary Willis, and Billy Sheehan.
