Five Bass Players You Should Know

Five-Bassists-You-Need-To-Listen-To-Right-Now-Spotify-Playlist

I love discovering new music. It doesn’t matter if it was released last week or 30 years ago – if it’s new to me and I like what I hear, I’m all for it!

I don’t know about you, but when I come across a new track, artist, or genre, I instantly get the urge to tell someone. It’s like stumbling upon a secret I can’t keep to myself.

That’s exactly what this post is all about. I’ve been listening to these bassists for quite some time now and can’t seem to get enough of them. And with that…

Five Bass Players You Should Know

  1. Flat13
  2. Seodophy
  3. Pete O’Neill
  4. Lukasz Adamczyk
  5. Mark Gunner

1. Flat13

With a name like that, you know it’s gonna be jazzy, nerdy (in a good way!), and amazing. Asheville-based bass player Ryan Crabtree – aka Flat13 – released his debut solo bass album “The Gamer” earlier this year. This electronic jazz fusion album is full of incredible bass playing, synth textures, and samples, giving you that nostalgic feeling of hibernating in your bedroom playing your favorite video game. Snag this wonderful piece of 8-bit goodness on Bandcamp today!

2. Seodophy

I first came across 19-year-old Lithuanian bassist Teodoras Balciauskis on Instagram and was instantly blown away. His distinct voice on the bass guitar results from his tapping technique, use of atmospheric chords, and unique style of music. He goes by the name Seodophy, and his EP “The After Hours” is perfect for listeners of lo-fi/hip hop who appreciate excellent musicianship on the bass guitar. Chill to it, study to it, and get lost in it!

3. Pete O’Neill

Studio musician, performer, teacher, and solo bassist Pete O’Neill has quite the resume. He’s studied with Victor Wooten, shared the stage with Gov’t Mule, and his bass lines have been featured in national ad campaigns. If you love the fretless bass and the 80s, you’ll love his latest release. Check out his solo bass EP “The 80s!”

4. Lukasz Adamczyk

I’ve been following guitarist Jakub Zytecki for quite some time now, and when I learned he was producing an EP for bassist Lukasz Adamczyk I was immediately interested. His music is absolutely captivating, immersed in emotion and full of dreamy, ambient groove. If you haven’t checked out his “Aware” EP, go give it a listen.

5. Mark Gunner

UK-based singer-songwriter Mark Gunner is taking the acoustic bass guitar to a whole new level. His folk and jazz-inspired solo bass act sounds more like a full band rather than a one man show, thanks to the variety of techniques utilized throughout his music. Check out his singles on most major streaming platforms, and visit his Soundcloud and YouTube channel for more songs, demos, and videos.
